Overview

TreatsPoints is Maybank’s credit card rewards programme, allowing users to redeem points for items, vouchers, and benefits. However, within the MAE app by Maybank, users previously had no visibility into their TreatsPoints balance or expiry details.

I focused on integrating TreatsPoints visibility into the MAE app to help users track, understand, and redeem their rewards before points expire and go to waste.

For this project, I collaborated closely with the Product Manager, UX Writer and Design Manager.

Problems

Despite being an existing rewards programme, TreatsPoints was not surfaced in users’ day-to-day banking experience on MAE.

No points visibility

Users could not view their TreatsPoints balance within the MAE app, causing many to miss expired points unknowingly.

Rewards awareness gap

Users were often unaware of their available points unless they manually checked their credit card statements, resulting in missed opportunities to redeem rewards.

No tracking of expiry

Points expire on a rolling basis, but users had no way to track expiring points within the app.

TreatsPoints was integrated into the MAE app as a visible and accessible feature, allowing users to track their points in real time.

The solution focused on improving transparency and awareness, ensuring users could easily understand their rewards status and take action before points expire.

By surfacing TreatsPoints directly in MAE, the experience shifts from passive discovery to proactive reward management.

Core Features

TreatsPoints balance overview

Users can now view their total TreatsPoints balance directly within the MAE app, eliminating the need to rely on credit card statements for basic reward information.

Points expiry tracking

The app highlights points that are expiring soon, helping users understand monthly expiry cycles and encouraging timely redemption before points are lost.

Points history visibility

Users can view their points history within the app, providing clarity on how points have been used and reinforcing the value of the rewards programme.

Outcomes

The integration of TreatsPoints into MAE improves reward transparency and reduces the likelihood of points expiring unnoticed.

Overall, the experience helps users feel more in control of their rewards and reinforces the value of using Maybank credit cards.

Conclusion

This project highlights how the absence of visibility can diminish the perceived value of an existing rewards programme.

While TreatsPoints already existed, its impact was limited by poor discoverability and lack of tracking tools within users’ primary banking app.

By integrating TreatsPoints into MAE, the solution transforms rewards from an overlooked benefit into an actively managed feature.

The design demonstrates how surfacing the right information at the right time can prevent value loss, improve user satisfaction, and strengthen long-term engagement with financial products.
